Battery Watcher widget?
« on: December 27, 2013, 03:49:51 PM »
Santa was kind enough to bring me a spanking new Nexus 10 :) Since I'm new to tablets AND KitKat (also have a Galaxy S3 OS4.3) I'm in brand new territory here. I've got TONS of questions, but will address them in separate topics as I encounter them to keep things simple.

I have a battery usage app, Battery Watcher Widget from Shaun Crampton, that I use on my Galaxy S3. What I especially like about it is that it shows the device temp at the top (the GS3 can run hot at times), and the widget on the home screen shows an animation as it charges, along with the actual current charge percentage--these are all configurable. I've installed it on my Nexus, but it's not doing anything at all, presumably meaning that while it can be installed, it doesn't work properly, unless I'm missing something.

Can anyone suggest any comperable apps with these functions? I'm not so much interested in individual app usage, since I assume most such battery apps will show that, but rather looking for these notification functions.

TIA
elaine

Welcome EPP, you have a good person in your life to get you such a great tablet.  I've used battery Apps on my GNex and S4, but nothing on the N10. I use GSam on my S4 and Thanks to your question will put it on my 10.  Btw, several battery Apps only work if your tablet is rooted, but that's another subject for another day.

Hahaha! Yes, I guess I was a better girl than I'd thought I was  ;D Hubby and daughter bought it for me. I'm a LONG time IT person with a Galaxy S3, but brand new to the tablet world!

Needless to say, I did NOT root my tab, and won't--I do know my limitations :) Just hoping to find a replacement for this particular app. I have another one I'm using, too, and it does put the tab temp and charge level in the notification area, but it's... kinda boring :) And I like the little animation that BWW does as it's charging.

Cheers!

Thanks, but I really have zero interest in rooting, I'm just looking for a batter watcher replacement app.

Happy new year and happy play, I'd never push a complete noob into rooting, it's not for most, my point was that many battery Apps are for root.  Good luck and check out the play store.

I'm not a complete noob, I'm a "DOS Dinosaur" and started the handheld world with a Palm TX and went on from there to an EVO 4G and current Galaxy S3, none of which were rooted by choice. Just new to tablets. But thanks for the explanation on battery apps, can't say that surprises me tho. The Play store is indeed loaded with many, I was just trying to cut thru the fluff :)

Starting with a Palm Pilot, I have transitioned through analog and digital cell technology, a Palm phone, BlackBerry, and arrived at Android. Currently with an S3, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10, Rooted 100%, I have found apps that work equally well on the phone platform and the tablet platform and those that don't and apps that I personally do not like. My point is that I have found that filtering through the fluff requires the process that you have started, ask for input, search, analyze, and make your choice.
