What file type?  You can transfer / copy them to a memory stick and then transfer to the 10 via Nexus Media Importer and a OTG cable.  There are several links here how to do it.

I use mp4 files as well, and use QQ Player on the 10, I transfer the file to play from my SD media or HDD using Nexus Media Player.  Or if your connected to your network, simply download directly to the 10.
I use dvd Catalyst 4 to rip my dvd's to mp4's, looks fine on tablet, computer and TV via my Roku.  Obviously if you want high Def sound and picture you're going to use much more data on any device.

Add xbmc to your PC, install Yates xbmc controller & streamer plug in on your N10, Google simple set up for xbmc streaming, start Yates update library, now you can watch anything in your library no conversion needed or control your PC's media or add Qloud  to your N10 add it's media server to your PC point it at your folders & enjoy without wasting device storage.

For me I have found it pretty to obtain my movies via desktop. I toss them on my G Drive, and they just stream fine from there, without taking space on my tablet. If sub titles are needed, I am deaf, just change the movie format to ago and download sub titles from many places on the web for free, use Google. Then put the subtitle file in the same folder as the movie. Using something like VLC to watch the movie
an option to read the sub titles.
