Nexus 10 shut down unexpectedly while in the sleep mode
« on: December 17, 2012, 01:07:24 PM »
I wonder whether anyone has similar experience like mine. I have a 32G one ordered through Google Play and received on Dec 5th. Love it.  I got a cover a couple days later, which is the click kind with hooks click on the corners and can stand in different positions.

Everything has been fine after I set up apps, except, in the last few days, I found out when I open the cover, Nexus 10 did not come back immediately, like my Nexus 7 does.  There had a few times it came back after about 5 seconds, which is very long for a tablet.  And there had a few times the unit was shut-down.  I had to press the power button (it went through Google logo, "X", etc.) to turn it back on. My Nexus 7 always turns on immediately when open the cover.

This concerns me.  I sought for a similar situation in the internet, but found none for Nexus 10.  There had one post for a Galaxy S II phone, which apparently had similar shut-down while in sleep mode like my Nexus 10. They used a term - coma, which was funny but does describe the situation.  Apparently, for that phone, there is no solution to fix it.  The tech guys explained Samsung clocked it too low in the sleep mode and phone just would not come back...Don't know any truth about it, nor whether it is related to Nexus 10, but just quote what was said in the post.

The situation did not happen in the first week after I receive the unit, nor after I put cover on.  It only happens in the last few days.  The only major thing I can recall is that the Nexus 10 was updated to 4.2.1 maybe about a week ago.

If anyone can help with the situation, I deeply appreciate.  I love the unit and hope it can work "flawlessly"...

An update.

Yesterday, I noticed one thing, which might be the cause of what I described in the previous post.  If anyone has the similar situation or know how to fix it or I did something wrong, please share.

I unplugged the power in the morning (USB off the tablet, not from the outlet).  I heard a low-frequency charm, which I heard before many times but did not pay too much attention to it.  I though it was a notification of a transition from AC power to battery.  Yesterday, I opened the cover faster enough to see a screen right before it shut down. It seemed to display a dialog box, then it shut down.  It was very brief, so I could not read exactly what the dialog box said. It was like to ask "OK" to be shut down or to display count-down seconds.  Previously, I did not open the cover that fast.  So it was in a shut-off state and that's why I needed to press power button to get it boot again.

No matter what the dialog box is, this is very odd.  There is no reason for the tablet to shut down when unplugged from AC power source, especially it is fully charged. This might be the root of the problem I have described in the previous post.  If anyone experience similar situation and knows how to fix it, please share.  Or if there is a setting I need to do to avoid the similar situation, please share.  It's annoying.

Another update...

It sounds like my problem is not just for my tablet.  There are quite a few experienced similar situations.  There is no fix, since factory reset does not work.  See link:

I'll contact Google support to see what they will say/do.
