Nexus 10 Toolkit Released: 1-Click Root, Nandroid Backup & More!
« on: November 19, 2012, 05:49:28 PM »

Many Android devotees don't consider an Android device as fully complete unless a comprehensive 1-Click Root method as well as the ability to unlock the bootloader, install Nandroid and other customization rituals have been accomplished.  While the Nexus 10 did a achieve root a few days ago it was a dodgy time-intensive method that only true experienced hackers could get a successful result with.  However I'm happy to announce that as of this afternoon an easier, 1-Click method has been announced and released by XDA Developers Forum member 'mskip' with his release of the Nexus 10 Toolkit!

Now the Nexus 10 Toolkit offers you a comprehensive and impressive range of Nexus 10 hacks and modifications that let's you take full control of you tablet and opens the way for custom roms, backups, dual boot scenarios and all manner of other potential niceties in the near future.  Here's a list of what you can do with the Nexus 10 Toolkit:

Quote
FUNCTIONS OF GOOGLE NEXUS 10 TOOLKIT V1.0.0 [19TH NOVEMBER 2012]

* Pull Files from your phone to your PC

* Dump BugReport to your PC
* Set Files Permissions on your phone
* Open new Command Prompt for manual input
* Reboot Phone to Fastboot Mode or Android from fastboot mode
* Reboot Phone to Fastboot Mode, Recovery, Android or Download Mode from adb mode

That's a pretty impressive list and while it appears that most if not all of the kinks have been worked out I'd still wait a few days as the developer sees if anything potentially damaging comes up in the next few days.   Rooting your mobile device always have some inherent risks and generally is only recommended for the experienced Android hacker.   While unlikely with a true and tried root method there is always the remote possibility you can 'brick' your tablet and therefore you should try it at your own risk and it's recommended you get help from an experienced hand the first time you root a device.  Still, with the above news it looks like the Nexus 10 is 'open for business' for the full Android development community.  You can read more and gain access to the files at the link below.

Better than WUGFRESH's toolkit, or an alternative?

I don't know if I'd say one is 'better' than the other. More of an alternative. They seem fairly comparable.

The toolkit hasn't been released yet, but then Wugfresh hasn't updated his for Nexus 10 yet either.

I can not say that one is better than the other either, but mskip (Mark) does appear to be more responsive to changes in devices with updates to his toolkit, plus it has a better interface in my opinion.

Not sure I agree about the UI; seems from the images like a DOS-type menu system.

He's pulled the toolkit at the moment due to problems. I think JB 4.2 is causing them.

Some people have rooted, but it appears a bit hit and miss.

I think I'll wait a while until it's a smoother process.

Agreed.  Probably best to wait till all the kinks are worked out.

Rather than judge the Toolkit by your impression of the screen shots, take the time to look at the interface and read the detailed user information, before rejecting it because it does not have a GUI. As I stated it was only my opinion.

I haven't rejected it, just commenting.

Currently there is not an easy, idiot-proof rooting tool for Nexus 10.

MTP and Multi-Users in Android 4.2 have created issues for superuser apps and rooting. Give the Dev's some time and Nexus on 4.2 will root as smoothly as prior versions.

Just rooted my device via mskip's Nexus 10 Toolkit.

Took about 10 minutes, of which most of that time was spent reading everything thoroughly.
