KitKat 4.4 Available by Sideload

If you are tired of waiting on the OTA KitKat push from Google and you have a working knowledge of Mark Skippen's or WugFresh's toolkits or you are handy with fastboot and adb commands, you can have 4.4 on your Nexus 10, like me. The OTA zip file is easily obtained from the Internet, just make sure that you get the one for the Nexus 10, which should include mantaray in the file name. You can use your choice of the toolkits and then select the sideload option as a do it yourself upgrade to KitKat, which can be accomplished with or without root. If you are rooted the KitKat OTA installed from Google or by sideload will remove root, but you can use one of the toolkits to easily restore root.

Nexus 10 Polls / Is the Nexus 10 Your First Tablet
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:53:12 PM »
Many Nexus 10 owners will see it as their first tablet and others will have experience with other tablets, so vote in the poll and then leave a comment. My Nexus 10 adds to my list of Android tablets. Note that the poll allows you to change your vote if you feel you voted incorrectly.

My List:

HTC Incredible 1
HTC Incredible 2
HTC Flyer
Toshiba Thrive (Returned)
Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet
Nexus 7
Samsung Galaxy S3
Nexus 10

I ordered my 32 GB Nexus 10 From the WalMart Online store today at $499.00 US and there is a 2 year protection plan for $44.00. Delivery to home is free and expected delivery is Tuesday 18Dec2012.

Nexus 10 Ordering and Shipping / Pre-order is available at Staples
« on: November 17, 2012, 11:50:31 AM »
The US based Staples has the 32 GB Nexus 10 available for pre-order at $499 and free shipping. The expected delivery is 17-27Dec, but I am betting that it ships before then. You do save on the shipping charge, but if is like the Nexus 7, you loose Google warranty support and have to go direct to Samsung, but you have a 14 day full refund period. I question how soon we will see it in the stores, so I am debating with myself. Opinions?

14Nov2012, Shows the Nexus 10 32 GB "Sold Out" at US Google Play. I checked constantly yesterday and the 32 GB showed "Available Soon", so obviously "Soon" came and went while I was asleep at the switch. I will not complain, because I expect to see the supply channel filled in a couple of weeks, but my real comment is that it looks as though Google has another winner with the Nexus 10. The 16 GB model is still available, so it remains to be seen if Google guessed wrong on the popularity of the 32 GB model and weighted the inventory heavily with the 16 GB model or if indeed the 32 GB is a runaway success.

Nexus 10 Ordering and Shipping / Countdown to the Nov 13th Release Date
« on: November 12, 2012, 06:39:56 AM »
With less than 24 hours before the scheduled release of the Nexus 10, I find myself wondering, if Google plans to offer any incentives to kick start sales of Nexus 10. They appear to be playing this one close to the chest. Any thoughts?

In reading the following from the Kansas City Star, it is notable, to me, that there is no mention of the Nexus 10's availability from sources other than Google Play and yet it specifically states that the Nexus 7 is available from other retailers. In looking for any mention of other sources for the Nexus 10, I find nothing more than the information from the KC Star or Google Play, stating that it will be available for purchase on November 13th. At this point I am wondering if Google is attempting to avoid the same situation that developed with the Nexus 7, where the 7's were available at retail outlets, when Google was having issues meeting the shipping demands. If so Google does not plan on making the same mistake again. Also another remote possibility is that we see the Nexus 10 only available from Google Play, but I personally do not look for that to happen.

Kanas City Star
The Nexus 7 tablets will continue to be sold at Google's Play store online as well as such retailers as GameStop, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, Wal-Mart.

The Nexus 10 tablet with 16 gigabytes of storage will sell for $399. That's $100 less than the comparable version of the latest iPad, though the older iPad 2 is still available at that price. The Nexus goes on sale in Google's online store Nov. 13.

The Nexus 4 phone boasts a 4.7-inch screen, larger than Apple's recently released iPhone 5 and just slightly smaller than Samsung's flagship phone, the Galaxy S III. A 16-gigabyte model of the Nexus 4 will sell for $199 with a two-year contract to buy phone service and Internet access from T-Mobile. A contract-free version is available for $299 with 8 gigabytes of storage and $349 for the 16-gigabyte model. Google is touting the Nexus 4's wireless charging capability as a major selling point.

I will be the first to follow BFM and introduce myself. I own an IT service company and mainly focus on Windows support, but I enjoy the Android platform and view Android as a source of revenue, integrating multiple sources of connectivity.
